RHB Permits and Certificates on the Web

This Radiologic Health Branch (RHB) search tool provides the most up to date information on valid and current X-ray and Nuclear Medicine technology certificates and permits (authorization). However, this search tool will not display

  • Any authorization that is not currently valid for any reason, or that have expired as of the last updated date indicated above.
  • Temporary Fluoroscopy Permits (TFP), which are issued only to licensed Physicians or Podiatrists in the form of a letter. A TFP is verifiable at RHB's online TFP webpage , valid for one year, and not renewable.

Radiologic Technologists, X-ray Technicians, Certified Supervisors and Operators, and Physician Assistants that hold any X-ray authorization or a MD, DO, or DPM holding a TFP, must provide their document to the X-ray facility where X-ray duties are performed. A Certified Technologist, Nuclear Medicine must display their authorization at their worksite.

It is the possession of a valid authorization that allows a person to use X-rays or radioactive drugs in the healing arts. The appearance of his or her name on this list verifies the current validity of any authorization listed.

Regardless of the expiration date indicated on the RHB authorization, a certificate or permit issued to a licentiate of the healing arts (MD, DO, DPM, DC, PA) is current and valid ONLY if the individual’s healing arts license is current and valid. If the individual’s healing arts license expires or becomes invalid BEFORE the expiration date indicated on the RHB authorization, the RHB authorization is INVALID pending renewal or reinstatement of the individual’s healing arts license.

Initial and renewing authorizations that are not listed may still be processing. If you do not see them, please check back on the next business day.

This searchable list is now used to print/save an electronic copy of the authorization. RHB, in the near future, will stop printing and mailing authorizations via the US Postal Service.

IMPORTANT: If your date of birth (DOB), social security number (SSN), or individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN) are NOT in RHB’s records, you will not be able to access the electronic document. To update your record, submit form CDPH 8391 (PDF) via email to RHBListC@cdph.ca.gov with "[secure]" in the subject line.

How to access your authorization document:

  1. Using the option to search by certificate type and number, enter your certificate or permit number (e.g., enter RHD into the Certificate Type field and 9999999 into the Certificate Number field) and click Search.
  2. Click on Verify License.
  3. The License Verification page will display
    1. Complete the Captcha process.
    2. Enter the last 4 digits of your SSN or ITIN.
    3. Enter your DOB in the specified format or use the date picker.
    4. Click Verify.
  4. If the information is verified, the License Verification page will display “VERIFIED”.
  5. Click on “Click to Download Document”.
  6. Your document will then display, and you may Print or Save the document.
  7. If the information is NOT verified, follow the given instructions. An email is preferred.
